The stalemate of the war in Ukraine results in supply difficulties for the world and increase food prices. This inflation exacerbates the food insecurity already present in the Horn of Africa but also in West Africa and in the Sahel where in the coming months millions of people could be the collateral victims of this war.
For this reason, the EU must assert itself as a major partner in food security. In addition to food aid, the EU must also invest in development and food production in Africa. This situation highlights the need for a greater strategic autonomy for the two continents and to ensure that their partnership yields tangible results in times of crisis.
ESI organized an expert conference to assess the impact of the war in Ukraine on the Africa-Europe partnership and to consider ways to strengthen its resilience.
