In conversation with H.E. John Dramani Mahama : Ghana's situation and future prospects within the framework of the Africa-Europe partnership

European Strategic Initiative was pleased to host H.E. John Dramani Mahama, former President of the Republic of Ghana (2012-2017) who shared some outlook about Ghana, West Africa and the partnership with the EU.

Due to its remarkable stability and succession of peaceful political transitions, Ghana can be considered as a model. This stability allows it to play the role of a privileged interlocutor with the European Union and also to work with the countries of the West African sub-region to forge important cooperation.

However, Ghana’s stability is now in question. The financial crisis putting the country under pressure, the deteriorating security situation in the Sahel region and the many challenges surrounding the Gulf of Guinea are issues that directly affect Ghana and the European Union.
